اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ وَمِنَ الْأَرْضِ مِثْلَهُنَّ
It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them. [His] command descends among them so you may know that Allah is over all things competent and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge.
Surah At-Talaq (65:12)
مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا وَالَّتِي تَلِيهَا مَسِيرَةُ خَمْسِمِائَةِ عَامٍ
« Between the nearest heaven and the one that follows it, there is a journey of five hundred years. »

In Surah At-Talaq (65:12), the Quran declares:
"It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them. His command descends between them, so you may know that Allah is over all things competent."
The Quran describes the heavens as being in superimposed layers. Modern astronomy has revealed that the universe is structured in layers: atmospheres, stellar layers, galaxy clusters, and large-scale structures.
