In Surah Al-Hadid (57:25), which literally means "The Iron," the Quran declares: "And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people."
The Arabic term "anzalna" (We sent down) is particularly significant. It suggests that iron came down from the sky, a claim that modern science has spectacularly confirmed.
Modern astrophysics has established that iron cannot form under the temperature and pressure conditions that exist inside our Sun. Iron is actually the final product of nuclear fusion in massive stars, and it is dispersed into space during supernova explosions.
The iron present on Earth therefore comes from these stellar explosions that occurred billions of years ago. Iron meteorites, which still fall to Earth, are fragments of these ancient celestial bodies.
The verse also mentions that iron contains "great military might," which is confirmed by the fact that iron has been used in construction, industry, and weaponry for millennia. Iron is the most stable element in the universe, and its atomic nucleus has the highest binding energy.
Professor Armstrong, a NASA scientist, stated that this Quranic information about the celestial origin of iron was impossible to know in the 7th century, thus confirming the miraculous nature of the Quran.
